Salmonberries
From Birch to Berries – Summer 2018 comes to a close
It’s August and our short Alaska summer is flying by! We have had a warm and sunny summer in Talkeetna, but the August rains have settled in the past few days. The gardens are thriving, the berry season is coming on and our Talkeetna Taste and Tour Shop and our kitchen have been crankin’ busy. We are seeing blueberries, lingonberries, and rosehips ripening in the woods around us, and we are looking forward to receiving a lot of deliveries soon from pickers across the state. After a poor 2017 harvest, we are happy to report that we just got our first salmonberries of the year in from Kodiak! See our Jams page.

It’s been a busy but enjoyable season at our Talkeetna shop. The moose enjoyed it too–they ate a lot of our veggies, but at least left us the Scarlet Runner Beans by the door.

Our kitchen crew in Palmer has been putting out product as quickly as they can in our small facility. The new kitchen manager, Gwen, has one crazy summer season almost behind her. She has had her hands full, but with great support from our seasoned staff. Left to right: Mary, Gwen, Brandon and Lauren

On a more personal note, we had some special help in the shop this summer. In addition to our already awesome staff, Sam and Cheryl Sussman, our sister and brother-in-law from Colorado, were at our Talkeetna shop for the 5-week peak season. They put their 40 years of business know-how to good use. We miss them already–maybe they’ll sign on again for next year?
Come visit us, in person or on line!
